From October 2026, the plumber coming to your door across Halstead, Braintree and the surrounding villages is Will Clayden. Will lives in Halstead — which means when you call, the van heading to you is already local, not setting off from the other side of the county. He is not new to CG Plumbing either: he first worked with Charlie as an apprentice in 2021, and joins the team full-time this autumn.
Since then he has spent his time with a plumbing-insurance company, working on the maintenance and emergency side: taps, toilets and leaks, along with installing hot-water cylinders and cold-water storage tanks. Ask him what he enjoys most and he will say the fault-finding — working out what is actually wrong with a system rather than being handed the answer.
Like Charlie, Will handles the heating and hot-water side of the job; any work on the gas appliance itself is carried out and certified by CG Plumbing's Gas Safe registered subcontractors. Everything else — leaks, bathrooms, cylinders, radiators, power flushing and emergency call-outs — Will handles directly.
Local, Trained, Coming Back to Where He Started
2021 — Apprentice with CG Plumbing
Will started out with Charlie as a CG Plumbing apprentice in 2021, learning the trade on real jobs in customers' homes.
Maintenance & Emergency Plumbing
He then worked for a plumbing-insurance company on maintenance and emergency call-outs — taps, toilets and leaks — and on installing hot-water cylinders and cold-water storage tanks. Fault-finding became the part of the job he enjoys most.
October 2026 — CG Plumbing, Halstead
Will rejoins CG Plumbing full-time as the engineer for Halstead, Braintree, Sudbury, Dunmow and Haverhill. He lives in Halstead, so the van is already local when you call.

Charlie Gaskin — Founder of CG Plumbing
Charlie founded CG Plumbing in Saffron Walden in 2019 and went full-time in April 2020. Apprentice-trained with Dover Plumbing & Heating and qualified at Cambridge Regional College, he went on to Nick Selves Plumbing & Heating and then DYNO, working on behalf of British Gas, before setting up on his own.
CG Plumbing is a family-run business that now holds the maintenance contract for Audley End Estate and 150 NHS properties in Cambridge. Halstead is the next step: an engineer who lives in the area, backed by everything Charlie has built.
